Description: Two- and multi-particle azimuthal correlations have proven to be an excellent tool to probe the properties of the strongly interacting matter created in heavy-ion collisions. Recently, the results obtained for multi-particle cumulants have been interpreted as evidence for collectivity in the small collision systems (pp and p–Pb) providing new insights into the systems' fluctuating initial conditions. In this article, first ALICE results on two- and multi-particle cumulants as a function of charged hadron multiplicity produced at midrapidity (| η | < 1.0) in pp collisions at s=13 TeV are reported. The results are compared with measurements in p–Pb collisions at sNN=5.02 TeV and in Pb–Pb collisions at sNN=2.76 TeV . A new method for the 4-particle cumulant with an η gap denoted as cn{4,|Δη|} will be presented, which is capable of further suppressing non-flow effects in multi-particle cumulants. The results allow for further understanding of the origin of multi-particle correlations in pp...

Description: ALICE measured the nuclear modification factor ($R_{AA}$) and elliptic flow ($\nu_{2}$) of D mesons ($D^{0}$, $D^{+}$, $D^{⁎+}$ and $D^{s+}$) in semi-central Pb–Pb collisions at $\sqrt{s_{NN}} =5.02$ TeV. The increased amount of data in semi-central Pb–Pb events obtained with the LHC Run 2 provides access to more precise measurements for the $R_{AA}$ and the non-strange D-meson $\nu_{2}$ with respect to Run 1 results, as well as to the first measurement of the $D_{s}$ -meson $\nu_{2}$ at LHC energies. The first application of the Event Shape Engineering technique in the analysis of the $\nu_{2}$ coefficient of $D^{0}$ and $D^{+}$ mesons is also illustrated.

Description: Azimuthally differential femtoscopic measurements, being sensitive to spatio-temporal characteristics of the source as well as to the collective velocity fields at freeze-out, provide very important information on the nature and dynamics of the system evolution. While the HBT radii modulations relative to the second harmonic event plane reflect mostly the spatial geometry of the source, the third harmonic results are mostly defined by the velocity fields. Radii variations with respect to the third harmonic event plane unambiguously signal a collective expansion and anisotropy in the flow fields. Event shape engineering (ESE) is a technique proposed to select events corresponding to a particular shape. Azimuthally differential HBT combined with ESE allows for a detailed analysis of the relation between initial geometry, anisotropic flow and the deformation of source shape. We present azimuthally differential pion femtoscopy with respect to second and third harmonic event planes as a function...

Description: First experimental results are presented on event-by-event net-proton fluctuation measurements in Pb- Pb collisions at $\sqrt{s_{NN}}$ = 2.76 TeV, recorded by the ALICE detector at the CERN LHC. The ALICE detector is well suited for such studies due to its excellent particle identification capabilities and large acceptance, which is crucial for fluctuation analysis. The studies are focussed on second order cumulants, but the analysis technique used is more general and will be applied, in the near future, also to higher order cumulants.

Description: The ALICE collaboration has measured the inclusive charmonium production at forward rapidity in Pb–Pb and p–Pb collisions at sNN=5.02TeV and sNN=8.16TeV , respectively. In Pb–Pb collisions, the J/ ψ and ψ (2S) nuclear modification factors ( R AA ), as well as the J/ ψ elliptic flow ( v2 ) and averaged squared transverse momentum ( 〈pT2〉 ), are presented. In p–Pb collisions, the J/ ψ nuclear modification factor ( R pPb ) as a function of p t and rapidity is presented. In both systems, our measurements are compared to theoretical calculations and to the results at lower energies.

Description: We report measurements of two jet shapes, the ratio of 2-Subjettiness to 1-Subjettiness ($\it{\tau_{2}}/\it{\tau_{1}}$) and the opening angle between the two axes of the 2-Subjettiness jet shape, which is obtained by reclustering the jet with the exclusive-$\it{k}_{T}$ algorithm \cite{kT} and undoing the final clustering step. The aim of this measurement is to explore a possible change in the rate of 2-pronged objects in Pb-Pb compared to pp due to colour coherence. Coherence effects \cite{ColourCoherence} relate to the ability of the medium to resolve a jet's substructure, which has an impact on the energy loss magnitude and mechanism of the traversing jet. In both collision systems charged jets are found with the anti-$\it{k}_{T}$ algorithm \cite{Anti-kT}, a resolution parameter of $\it{R}=$0.4\ and a constituent cut off of $0.15$ GeV. This analysis uses hadron-jet coincidence techniques in Pb-Pb collisions to reject the combinatorial background and corrects further for background effects...

Description: The characterization of the jet substructure can give insight into the microscopic nature of the modification induced on high-momentum partons by the Quark-Gluon Plasma that is formed in ultra-relativistic heavy-ion collisions. Jet shapes allow us to study the modification of parton to jet fragmentation and virtuality, probing jet energy redistribution, intra-jet broadening or collimation and possible flavour hierarchy. Results of a selected set of jet shapes will be presented for $\mbox{p--Pb}$ collisions at $\sqrt{s_{\scriptscriptstyle \rm NN}}= 5.02 \mathrm{TeV}$ and for $\mbox{Pb--Pb}$ collisions at $\sqrt{s_{\scriptscriptstyle \rm NN}} = 2.76 \mathrm{TeV}$. Results are also compared with PYTHIA calculations and models that include in-medium energy loss.

Description: In ultra relativistic heavy-ion collisions at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC), conditions are met to produce a hot, dense and strongly interacting medium known as the Quark Gluon Plasma (QGP). Quarks and gluons from incoming nuclei collide to produce partons at high momenta early in the collisions. By fragmenting into collimated sprays of hadrons, these partons form 'jets'. The outgoing partons scatter and interact with the medium, leading to a manifestation of medium modifications of jets in the final state, known as jet quenching. Within the framework of perturbative QCD, jet production is well understood in pp collisions. We use jets measured in pp interactions as a baseline reference for comparing to heavy-ion collision systems to detect and study jet quenching. The jet quenching mechanism can be studied through the angular correlations of jets with charged hadrons and is examined in transverse momentum ( p T ) bins of the jets, p T bins of the associated hadrons, and as a function...
