Title: Overview of recent ALICE results Author:Arnaldi Roberta Subject:Physics Description:
ALICE is the LHC experiment devoted to the study of heavy-ion collisions. While results from Pb-Pb collisions at √sNN = 2.76 TeV provide insight on the properties of the plasma of quarks and gluons, formed in nucleus-nucleus interactions, the study of p-Pb collisions at √sNN = 5.02 TeV allows a deeper understanding of cold nuclear matter effects. Therefore, p-Pb results turn out to be a powerful tool to provide a baseline for Pb-Pb, to correctly quantify how the various observables are affected by genuine hot medium effects. In this proceeding, a selection of the most recent ALICE results on the medium global properties and on heavy-flavour and quarkonium production will be discussed.

Title: Quarkonium production in heavy-ion collisions Author:Arnaldi Roberta Subject:Physics Description:
The production of quarkonium states plays a crucial role among the probes to investigate the formation of the plasma of quarks and gluons (QGP) in heavy-ion collisions. A review of the charmonium and bottomonium production, mainly focussing on the latest results from the LHC experiments, is presented.

Title: j / suppression in pa and inin collisions Author:Arnaldi, Roberta Subject:Physics; Description:
Results from the NA60 experiment on the J / production are presented. We show that in InIn collisions there is an extra suppression of the J / yield with respect to the expectations of the nuclear absorption. This suppression increases with the centrality of the collisions and it is dominant for low- p T J /. We also report on new results on the azimuthal J / distributions in InIn collisions. For central collisions, these azimuthal distributions are compatible with an isotropic emission, while for peripheral events, and in particular at high transverse momentum, there is a clear signal of anisotropy, and the J / are emitted preferentially within the reaction plane.

Title: The onset of the anomalous J/psi suppression in Pb-Pb collisions at the CERN SPS Author:Arnaldi, Roberta Subject:High Energy Physics - Experiment Description:
The J/psi suppression observed by the NA50 experiment is one of the most striking signatures for quark gluon plasma formation in Pb-Pb collisions at 158 AGeV. The J/psi production has been studied as a function of the centrality of the collision estimated via the forward energy EZDC released in a zero degree calorimeter (ZDC). The study of the correlation between the number of participant nucleons in the collisions, Npart, and EZDC allows to check whether the J/psi suppression pattern vs. EZDC is compatible with a sudden J/psi suppression mechanism expressed as a function of Npart.
