Description: This investigation arose as a practical part of the PhD thesis: Fisac's "bones"; the search for the ideal piece. The thesis analyzes Miguel Fisac’s patented architectural inventions. An exhaustive analysis of his patents allows for the discovery of the evolution of Fisac’s work and the Spanish master’s thought processes. They crystallized in his last and still current patented system:"Poured Architecture". Fisac dies in 2006 without seeing a practical application for his last invention. This is the basis to the present work, whose aim is to develop Fisac’s patent in the field of low cost single-family housing. A real practical case was developed which served as testing ground to analyse the possibilities and limitations of the system. The methodology and conclusions allow us to visualize as a whole the evolution of Miguel Fisac's thought processes, whilst covering Spain’s most recent building tradition and its relationship with current reality.brbrInvestigación...

Title: Average value of available measurements of the absolute air-fluorescence yield
    Author: Rosado, J.; Blanco, F.; Arqueros, F.
Subject: Astrophysics - Instrumentation And Methods For Astrophysics
Description: The air-fluorescence yield is a key parameter for determining the energy scale of ultra-high-energy cosmic rays detected by fluorescence telescopes. A compilation of the available measurements of the absolute air-fluorescence yield normalized to its value in photons per MeV for the 337 nm band at given pressure and temperature has been recently presented in Ref. [1]. Also, in that paper, some corrections in the evaluation of the energy deposited in the corresponding experimental collision chambers have been proposed. In this note this comparison is updated. In addition, a simple statistical analysis is carried out showing that our corrections favor the compatibility among the various experiments. As a result, an average value of 5.45 ph/MeV for the fluorescence yield of the 337 nm band (20.1 ph/MeV for the spectral interval 300-420 nm) at 1013 hPa and 293 K with an uncertainty of 5% is found. This result is fully compatible with that recently presented by the AIRFLY collaboration (still preliminary) in such a way that including this latest result could even lowered the final uncertainty below the 5% level with high reliability. Title: Mediating role of activity level in the depressive realism effect
Author: Blanco, F; Matute, H; Vadillo Nistal, Ma
    Date: 2012
Description: Several classic studies have concluded that the accuracy of identifying uncontrollable situations depends heavily on depressive mood. Nondepressed participants tend to exhibit an optimistic illusion of control, whereas depressed participants tend to better detect a lack of control. Recently, we suggested that the different activity levels (measured as the probability of responding during a contingency learning task) exhibited by depressed and nondepressed individuals is partly responsible for this effect. The two studies presented in this paper provide further support for this mediational hypothesis, in which mood is the distal cause of the illusion of control operating through activity level, the proximal cause. In Study 1, the probability of responding, P(R), was found to be a mediator variable between the depressive symptoms and the judgments of control. In Study 2, we intervened directly on the mediator variable: The P(R) for both depressed and nondepressed participants was manipulated through instructions. Our results confirm that P(R) manipulation produced differences in the participants’ perceptions of uncontrollability. Importantly, the intervention on the mediator variable cancelled the effect of the distal cause; the participants’ judgments of control were no longer mood dependent when the P(R) was manipulated. This result supports the hypothesis that the so-called depressive realism effect is actually mediated by the probability of responding.
