Title: La formazione dei docenti di ginnastica nell'Ottocento: nascita di una professione in Italia
    Author: Elia, Domenico
Subject: Italy ; Portugal ; Spain ; France ; Education History ; Physical Education ; Gymnastics ; Teachers ; European History
Description: The article analyses some early gymnastics teachers' lives in order to improve the understanding of their process of professionalization. The research focuses on the first generation of Italian gymnastics teachers (1861-1878) and sheds light on the development of teaching qualifications adopted in Latin Europe (Italy, France, Spain, Portugal). Teachers' careers are investigated using archival sources taken from the series «Ufficio del Personale (1860-1880)» in the Central State Archive.

Title: Strange and identified particle production with ALICE at the LHC
    Author: Elia Domenico
    Subject: Physics
Description: The ALICE experiment has measured the production of strange and identified charged particles in pp, p–Pb and Pb–Pb collisions at LHC energies. Light-flavour hadrons are identified in various momentum ranges by using specific energy loss, timeof-flight, Cherenkov radiation, as well as decay topology and invariant mass analysis for weakly-decaying strange particles. In this contribution, the transverse momentum spectra at mid-rapidity and the corresponding yields measured in pp, p–Pb and Pb–Pb collisions for different multiplicity or centrality intervals are presented. The production of light-flavour hadrons in the three collision systems is compared and confronted with theoretical models.

    Author: Elia, Domenico
    Contributor: Elia, Domenico (pacrepositoryorg)
Subject: Large Hadron Collider ; Charged Particles ; Charged Particles ; Particle Collisions
Description: The pseudorapidity density and multiplicity distributions of charged particles have been the first measurements carried out with the ALICE detector at the LHC. After an introduction on the experiment and some details on the subdetectors relevant for these measurements, results from minimum bias proton-proton collisions at 0.9, 2.36 and 7 TeV are presented. Comparisons with other measurements and model predictions are also discussed.

Title: Role of dopamine D-like and D-like receptors in the activation of ingestive behaviour in thirsty rats licking for water
Author: D'Aquila, Paolo S; Elia, Domenico; Galistu, Adriana
Subject: Activation ; Dopamine ; Dopamine Receptor ; Ingestion ; Motivation ; Reward
Description: Analysis of lick pattern for sucrose and NaCl and of the forced swimming response after dopamine antagonist administration led us to suggest that dopamine on D-like receptors is involved in behavioural activation, and the level of activation is "reboosted" on the basis of an evaluation process involving D-like receptors. Although some studies investigated licking microstructure for water after dopamine antagonists, the within-session time course of their effect was never investigated. The aims of this study were to further investigate the role of dopamine receptors in the mechanisms governing water ingestion, focussing on the within-session time course of the microstructure parameters, and to test the proposed hypothesis. The effects of the dopamine D-like receptor antagonist SCH 23390 (0.01-0.04 mg/kg) and of the dopamine D-like receptor antagonist raclopride (0.025-0.25 mg/kg) on licking microstructure for water were examined in 20-h water-deprived rats in 30-min sessions. As previously observed with sucrose and NaCl, SCH 23390 reduced licking by reducing burst number, suggesting reduced behavioural activation. Moreover, it resulted in an increased burst size. Raclopride reduced the size of licking bursts, while their number was either increased or decreased depending on the dose. The results support the suggestion that D receptors are involved in behavioural activation and D receptors are involved in a related evaluation process. Within the framework of the proposed hypothesis, the increased burst size after D-like receptor blockade might be interpreted as a pro-hedonic effect consequent to the increased cost of the activation of the licking response.
