Title: Do we need “neuropsychotherapy”? Author:Richter, Matthias Subject:Nervous System ; Psychotherapy ; Nervous System ; Psychotherapy ; Behavioral and Cognitive Neuroscience; Description:
The somewhat crude question of whether we need neuropsychotherapy means more precisely whether its neuroscientific perspective can be useful for the psychotherapeutic practice. To answer this question the traditional scientific approaches do not completely suffice. The “empirical-technical approach” of quantitative psychotherapy research is of no service here as neuropsychotherapy is only its continuation. Within the framework of this methodology it is not possible to critically reflect on the relevance of neuroscientific research. Such a reflection is, however, the prerequisite for an evaluation of the benefits of neuropsychotherapy. The question about the meaning of neurobiological processes thus leads to the field of epistemology. This “theoretical approach” is nonetheless only helpful within limits. It provides an important background of reflection, however it needs to remain abstract compared to psychotherapeutic practice because it does not integrate the specific goals of such practice. What is presented here instead is an “approach of pragmatic reflection”. This reflection departs from a general purpose of psychotherapy from which the value of neuropsychotherapy can be appropriately estimated. After this clarification the approach of pragmatic reflection can be preliminarily demonstrated with concrete applications of neuroscience in psychotherapy. What is shown hereby is that neuropsychotherapy represents a very specific practice of argumention and action, which implements a logic into psychotherapy that does not fit its contents and goals.

Title: Data compression in alice by on-line track reconstruction and space point analysis Author:Richter, Matthias Subject:Format ; Mathematical Models ; Reconstruction ; Clusters ; Raw ; Data Compression ; Tracking ; Compressing ; Atomic and Molecular Physics (General) (So) ; Physics of Metals (MD) ; Physics (General) (Ah); Description:
High resolution detectors in high energy nuclear physics deliver a huge amount of data which is often a challenge for the data acquisition and mass storage. Lossless compression techniques on the level of the raw data can provide compression ratios up to a factor of two. Higher compression ratios can be reached by introducing an appropriate model for the raw data and storing relevant information for the event reconstruction with respect to that model. In ALICE, a data compression technique has been developed for the Time Projection Chamber (TPC) to reach an overall compression factor suited for data taking in Heavy Ion collisions. The ALICE High Level Trigger provides online calculation of the TPC clusters from the raw data, followed by tracking, thus producing a fully reconstructed event. Storing the reconstructed cluster data in an appropriate compressed format for utilization in the off-line reconstruction allows to discard the original raw data of the TPC. In the presented solution, compression factors of four to six are achieved without significantly affecting the physics performance. By associating space points to reconstructed tracks, all relevant parameters can be further transformed into a format suitable for Huffman compression. In a first conservative approach, all reconstructed clusters are kept in the data. Data compression has been implemented for the ALICE TPC in 2011 for usage in the Heavy Ion data-taking. In this contribution the results on 2011 real data are presented for the first time.
