    Title: $^{96}_{36}$Kr$_{60}$–Low-Z Boundary of the Island of Deformation at N =60

    Description: Prompt γ-ray spectroscopy of the neutron-rich $^{96}$Kr, produced in transfer- and fusion-induced fissionreactions, has been performed using the combination of the Advanced Gamma Tracking Array and theVAMOS++ spectrometer. A second excited state, assigned to $J^π$ = $4^+$, is observed for the first time, anda previously reported level energy of the first 2+ excited state is confirmed. The measured energy ratioR4/2 = E($4^+$)/E($2^+$) = 2.12(1) indicates that this nucleus does not show a well-developed collectivitycontrary to that seen in heavier N = 60 isotones. This new measurement highlights an abrupt transition ofthe degree of collectivity as a function of the proton number at Z = 36, of similar amplitude to thatobserved at N = 60 at higher Z values. A possible reason for this abrupt transition could be related to theinsufficient proton excitations in the g9/2, d5/2, and s1/2 orbitals to generate strong quadrupole correlationsor to the coexistence of competing different...

    Title: Direct observation of two protons in the decay of $^{54}$Zn

    Description: The two protons emitted in the decay of 54Zn have been individually observed for the rst time in a Time Projection Chamber. The total decay energy and the half-life measured in this work agree with the results obtained in a previous experiment. Angular and energy correlations between the two protons are determined and compared to theoretical distributions of a three-body model. Within the shell model framework, the relative decay probabilities show a strong contribution of the p2 con guration for the two-proton emission. After 45Fe, the present result on 54Zn constitutes only the second case of a direct observation of the ground state two-proton decay of a long-lived isotope.

    Title: X-ray fluorescence from the element with atomic number Z = 120

    Description: An atomic clock based on X-ray fluorescence yields has been used to estimate the mean characteristic time for fusion followed by fission in reactions 238U + 64Ni at 6.6 MeV/A. Inner shell vacancies are created during the collisions in the electronic structure of the possibly formed Z=120 compound nuclei. The filling of these vacancies accompanied by X-ray emission with energies characteristic of Z=120 can take place only if the atomic transitions occur before nuclear fission. Therefore, the X-ray yield characteristic of the united atom with 120 protons is strongly related to the fission time and to the vacancy lifetimes. K X-rays from the element with Z = 120 have been unambiguously identified from a coupled analysis of the involved nuclear reaction mechanisms and of the measured photon spectra. A minimum mean fission time $\tau$_f$ = 2.5×10−18s has been deduced for Z=120 from the measured X-ray multiplicity.
