    Description: We demonstrate the total extinction of the reflectivity for a transverse magnetic polarized wave on a gold surface etched on 6% of its area by both narrow (150 nm) and deep ( 2   μ m ) grooves. These high aspect ratio metallic grooves were fabricated using a mold cast technique based on an electrolytic growth of gold. They exhibit two resonance peaks corresponding to the first and second cavity modes inside the grooves. We also evidence the incidence-invariance of their spectral response, which undoubtedly shows the localized nature of the resonances. These experimental results confirm the prediction of total funneling of light in very narrow grooves.

    Description: In this Letter, we demonstrate both theoretically and experimentally that plasmonic planar L-shaped antenna can nearly totally convert the linear polarization of light with a high efficiency in the infrared (3–5  μ m). The nanoantenna geometry is engineered so that the polarization conversion occurred on a 1  μ m-wide band ([3.25–4.25] μ m) with a mean polarization conversion ratio of 95%. We show that this effect is due to two localized resonances in the L-shaped antenna, which wavelengths are tunable with the in-plane geometry of the nanoantenna. Eventually, the angular independence of the polarization conversion effect is evidenced.

    Description: The far-field spectral and near-field spatial responses of an individual metal-insulator-metal nanoantenna are reported, using thermal fluctuations as an internal source of electromagnetic field. The far-field spectra obtained by combining Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy with spatial modulation based on a light falloff effect in a confocal geometry have revealed two distinct emission peaks attributed to the excitation of the fundamental mode of the nanoantenna at two distinct wavelengths. Super-resolved near-field images of the thermally excited mode have been obtained by thermal radiation scanning tunneling microscopy. Experimental results are supported by numerical simulations showing that it is possible to excite the same mode at different wavelengths near a resonance of the insulating dielectric material forming the antenna.
